Climate Change Adaptation Planning - Public Information Session

A series of three (3) public information meetings will be held in January 2020 - at different times/locations, to provide opportunities for members of the public to attend and participate. 

Location: Sarnia City Hall, 255 Christina Street North, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. - Open house format (from 6:30 to 7:00 p.m.), Staff presentation at 7:00 p.m. - Open discussion from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Purpose - To review Sarnia Climate trends, how the community is anticipated to be impacted by changing climate, and the draft (proposed) action items to be included in the City of Sarnia draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan to address impacts to City services and operations. Staff wishes to hear citizen concerns about climate change, and how these concerns could possibly be addressed in the City's corporate climate action plan. 

The primary impacts affecting the City are: increased precipitation and heavy rainfall events, increased summer temperatures, more freeze-thaw cycles in Winter, and storms & severe weather events.

Location: Clearwater Community Centre (Arena), Wellington Street at Finch Drive, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon. - Open house format (from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m.), Staff presentation at 10:30 a.m. - Open discussion from 11 a.m. to noon.

Sarnia City Council entered into an agreement with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for a $125,000 grant to enable the in-house completion of a municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan over a two-year period (March 2019 - February 2021).
