Consultation has concluded

In March 2019, the City of Sarnia entered into an agreement with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for a $125,000 grant, through the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program, to undertake the development of a municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan over a two-year period (March 2019 - February 2021). This project will be managed by Planning staff of the Community Development Services and Standards Department.

In Year 1 of the project (March 2019 – February 2020) the City will complete a Corporate Climate Change Risk Assessment to identify the impacts of climate change on the City’s natural and physical assets, and a draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be prepared.

In Year 2 of the project (March 2020 – February 2021) the Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be finalized and Plan implementation will begin.

The scope of the project is for the development of a municipal (corporate) Climate Change Adaptation Plan that touches on all areas of City operations and services. The proposed plan would apply to all City departments and would contain a detailed list of action items assigned to specific departments, with implementation timelines and recommendations for the resources required to enable the completion of identified actions. Through the public consultation phases, the concerns of the community can be identified and integrated, where possible.

Through this site, you can access Council reports, Sarnia climate data, and useful information (documents and external links) and your participation in the planning process is encouraged.

Three (3) community meetings are scheduled for January 2020 and are posted in the "Key dates" section.
