Background

At the November 23, 2020 meeting, City Council instructed staff report on installing Disc Golf course(s) somewhere in a Sarnia park that included research on best location for one or two Disc Golf courses to be installed, costs associated with consultation and installation, to be considered for this upcoming budget; which was moved and carried at the January 18, 2021 Council meeting.

At the Sarnia City Council Budget meeting on December 7, 2021 Council approved $25,000 in funding for the installation of a Disc Golf Course.

Locations for Consideration

Based on the review of best practices and early feedback in 2021 from some local disc golf enthusiasts, staff have identified the following three potential locations for a disc golf course to kick off the public consultation effort:

  • Canatara Park - general area under consideration is identified in Attachment 1 of the report;
  • Centennial Park - general area under consideration is identified in Attachment 2 of the report;
  • Mike Weir Park - general area under consideration is identified in Attachment 3 of the report.

Please review the document "Report - Disc Golf Locations" for more detailed information on this project and the above location considerations.

With Council approval for $25,000 in 2022 capital funding to support a new course, it is expected that this will include the installation of 9 cement pads (measuring 5 X 12’), 9 baskets, and all associated signage for each hole. The operating details will be proposed as part of the final recommendation for the location.

Public Consultation

Through the public consultation efforts, staff are looking for input on the following items through the online survey:

  • Proposed location for a new disc golf course;
  • Suggestions for alternate location options;
  • Amenities to be considered; and
  • Operating considerations including permit requirements.

Public Feedback

Deadline for public feedback was March 14, 2022.
