Consultation has concluded

At its meeting scheduled for September 13, 2021, Sarnia City Council will give consideration to proposed amendments to Sign By-Law #65 of 2014. The minor amendments, which serve to recognize third party advertising during elections, are summarized below:

"Election Sign" means a temporary sign advertising any political party or candidate participating in the election for public office or referendum item.

Election Sign” means a sign advertising, promoting, supporting or opposing the election of a political party, a candidate for public office, or a “yes” or “no” answer to a question on the ballot in a federal, provincial or municipal election.

9.5.1 No election sign shall be installed until the candidate is officially registered in a Federal, Provincial, Municipal or School Board election.

9.5.1 No election sign shall be installed until:

i. The issuance of writs for a provincial or federal election.

ii. The first day of the nomination period for a Municipal Elections.

ii. The Candidate has filed their nomination with the City Clerk for a municipal election.
