Consultation has concluded

At its meeting held on Monday, May 31, 2021, Sarnia City Council approved the implementation of a Fair Wage Policy for construction work with contract values exceeding $50,000.00.

In addition, public engagement is being advanced for the potential implementation of a Fair Wage Policy for construction work with contract values below $50,000.00 with final consideration to occur during 2022 Budget Deliberations Meeting.

The Draft Fair Wage Policy for construction work projects under $50,000.00 and corresponding Schedule are available for download in the Documents section of this page, together with the Report to Sarnia City Council of May 31, 2021.

The purpose of this policy is to ensure Contractor’s and Sub Contractor’s employees engaged in construction work with the City receive the prevailing wage rates. Among other economic benefits, it provides a level playing field for contractors, which attributes to a more sustainable and viable industry sector.

Please provide written comments regarding the Draft Fair Wage Policy for construction work projects under $50,000.00 by no later than Monday, September 13, 2021 at 4:30 p.m. Comments received during the public engagement process will be provided to Sarnia City Council for consideration during the 2022 Budget Deliberations process.
