OVERVIEW

Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport (CYZR) is owned by the City of Sarnia and operated by Scottsdale Aviation. Through the financial support provided by FedDev Ontario through the Regional Air Transportation Initiative, the City of Sarnia is completing a Master Plan for Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport with the assistance of HM Aero Aviation Consulting.

The project will address the airport’s growth and development over the next 20 years, considering matters such as restoration of passenger air service, infrastructure renewal, and opportunities to increase the overall economic and social benefit of the facility.

WHAT IS AN AIRPORT MASTER PLAN

The Sarnia Chris Hadfield Airport Master Plan will encompass a 20-year planning horizon (2022-2042) and address key elements of the airport's growth and development over that period. Key considerations of the Airport Master Plan will include:

  • Analyzing the strategic position of the airport in its broader regional context;
  • Identifying opportunities that may exist to increase activity at the airport and broaden its economic role;
  • Ensuring that the infrastructure and services of the airport are well-maintained and able to meet future demand;
  • Recommending a governance, operations, and funding strategy to meet future demands; and
  • Providing targeted and actionable business development plans with which to pursue key objectives, such as the restoration of passenger air services.

Once completed, the Airport Master Plan will serve as an advisory document with a systematic series of recommended priorities for consideration and potential implementation by the City of Sarnia and its partners.
